Avon Breast Cancer Walk - Oct 2011

Wow.. so much to catch everyone up on...
In late October, Missy, Amy and I were honored to participate in the Avon Breast Cancer Walk in Charlotte NC. It was a fun filled weekend but very humbling the same. I walked 13.1 miles on Saturday and another 13.1 miles on Sunday for a total of 26.2 miles. I raised $1982 and together the 3 of us raised over $5600 to go towards Breast Cancer research and treatment with the majority of the money staying right here in NC.

There were many amazing things as we walked along... walking through Myers Park, where the big oaks lined the streets and all had big pink bows hanging on them. People were in their driveways handing out candy, water, donuts, coffee and even girl scout cookies... all saying Thank you and cheering us on. The saviors of the weekend were some Harley guys as we called them who came up from Atlanta and worked the intersections to ensure we could cross safely. These gentlemen wore tutus over their leathers and painted the go-tees pink to cheer us on. They provided such a lift to us walkers and reminded us why we were there. Hearing a complete stranger say to you "have I told you today what a wonderful job you are doing"... it just gives you that little extra lift you need to carry on. As you can imagine walking this much and attending an event like this offers lots of time to think... lots of time to reflect on what we have and all of our blessings. One out of every 10 women I walked with were breast cancer survivors. Next time you are with a group of women.. think about that... one out of ten of us... it was an emotional weekend and something I am so proud I did... and I hope to do again in the future!!

Just thought I would finally start getting some of this down... without the love and support of friends and family though... this wouldn't have been possible! What an awesome memory!!

Day 2 dinner - crock pot

Tonight's dinner was not an internet recipe.. but instead just a Hormel Cure 81 ham cooked on low all day with some pineapple slices thrown in there.. some mashed potatoes, seasoned lima beans and rolls... yeap.. good old southern comfort food right there!!!

My new crock pot obsession...

Sounds weird right... a co worker gave me a recipe that his wife makes off the internet for crock pot rissotto.. so this woman in 2008 cooked in her crock pot every single day... for a whole year... amazing I tell you... the neat thing is people comment so you can get other's opinions on how the meal was.. plus any changes they made.... its easy to get sucked right on in...
I have bookmarked my first few recipes to try... and last night was recipe #1.. buffalo chicken lasagna... it was great!! The family loved it... and it will make a great recipe for these winter football games and such.... I posted it on facebook and lots of people wanted the recipe... I haven't confessed yet that I am pulling them all from a website.. hahaha.... how mean of me!!!

Jim was home.. now gone again...

Jim was home... and we really enjoyed spending time with him!! While home, he made a family trip to Disney... a lunch with work peeps and a football Sunday cookout at our house...
It was so good to see him and now the count down begins until he is home for good... 4 more months!!! Yeah...

Holy hectic day

What a day what a day. There currently are 9 people in my house.. the 4 of us, my MIL and FIL, the niece Katie, her husband Matt and their 5 month old Adalynn....
Oh and two dogs... yeap.. that's a house full for sure.
Katie and Matt are fun though.. and will be here until the 29th when they move into their first home together at Ft. Bragg.. I am totally excited for them.

Outside of that, we had lacrosse at 10:30am, football at 2:30pm (had to be there at 1pm) and then straight to a corn hole tournament which was a breast cancer fundraiser for the walk that Missy, Amy and I are doing in late October..
It was a great time and alot of fun was had overall... lots of good food, a keg of beer (which was gone by 9pm) and prizes thanks to one of their friends! Great time with some really great people!!!

And as soon as we get home, I have to log into work and work some.. just testing for a change that is going on but hopefully all will go well and it will be an early night... they started about an hour ago... so fingers crossed!!!

I find myself a bit stressed... and buying hair dye more often that I might have before... but overall, things are good and we are enjoying life to the fullest!! That is the key right....to enjoy every moment and pack it full of memories to last the kids lifetimes. I will never have to worry about my boys ever saying that they spent all their time playing video games... whew not with the schedule we keep!!!

I might be ready for another St Marteen trip ~ just a thought!

September's events..

September has been a good but incredibly busy month so far... we started labor day weekend with cookouts, a day trip to the beach, Ryan's first football game... we headed back to work for ONE day.. and then Chris and I took off to the mountains for a 2 night getaway... yes.. our weekends are so busy that we felt bad for putting that on anyone, so went away during the week so we could be back to enjoy all the boys sports.
Luckily Katie and Matt are here.. waiting on housing at Ft Bragg... they have their place and move in on the 29th... they are really excited! It will be their first place as a family... we are happy for them!

Made it back on Friday afternoon ... so that we could see Trenton's first lacrosse game on Saturday morning.. he did really well considering he has never played.. NEVER .. like NEVER EVER... I was very proud of him. From the lacrosse game we went straight to football.. and saw the PW Black team win another game.. they played well....
Sunday was NFL kickoff Sunday with the Bengals winning against the Browns.. always a HUGE game for us.. and then Trenton's soccer game at WRAL. Trenton started as goalie and made several great saves... the second half he played defense and his team won 3 - 1... overall a great game!!

I have posted some pics on Facebook of the mountain cabin.. it was a quaint, cozy place with a fireplace, a King sized bed and a hot tub. It was in town but was still pretty private.. and was really nice on the inside... overall a great place to call home for a couple of days.

We rode Tail of the Dragon while out there... so I officially am a Dragon Slayer now.. it was such fun.. but a hard ride for Chris since it was the first time riding that two up. But it was fun and we made it through... good times for all. The weather was really nice and not too hot either.. so we got really lucky.... the first of the leaves had started to turn.. looks like this year will be a good years for the mountain colors.

That's it for now... hope you get a chance to read this Jim... and anyone else that might stumble across it... :-)

Sports ~

Are you ready for some football...? Well we are... and those who know us know what our fall sporting seasons are like. Soccer for Trenton began 2 weeks ago and his team is playing well. Football began today for Ryan and they started the season with a great WIN. Next weekend Trenton starts lacrosse as well.. so how will we spend our weekends you ask... ? Getting some major farmers tans for sure!!!

Things are going really well here in the McHargue household... both boys are back in school and doing well. Sports have started and we are staying busy busy busy!!! Truth be told.. we love it though.

We went to see Grandma today... it was a nice visit. She will be 88 in October.. what an amazing woman... we didn't get to stay too long because we had to head out to football... but it was great to see her and get a chance to catch up with her.

Chris and I are looking forward to a couple of days in the mountains here very soon... it will be nice to spend a little quality time together and we love the mountains any time we get to go. We miss the boys, but sometimes its nice to get a way for a couple of days.. but no worries.. we won't miss a single sporting event!!!!

Just a short little catch up... Jim in case you are reading this... we are uploading pics and stuff to our shutterfly site...
